Before you use it
The code is Apache-2.0 and the model weights are CC BY 4.0, so you can use the output commercially but should credit Google Magenta for the model.
Why it's useful
Rather than writing a finished track, it streams music continuously and shifts style within about a fifth of a second when you change the prompt. That makes it useful for jamming out game music ideas, or for trying music that reacts to what the player is doing. Comes with free apps and a DAW plug-in.
What it needs
Live playback needs an Apple Silicon Mac (an M3 Pro or M2 Max or better for the bigger model). On Windows or Linux the Python library can generate offline with an NVIDIA graphics card, but not live.
