Pong Through Time

by VibeCove Joe

3D Pong across ten moments in history: a gladiator duel in the Colosseum, the brand-new pyramids at sunset, a Viking fjord under the northern lights, Seurat's park in cardboard cut-outs, inside The Starry Night, and a golf ball on the Moon.

What you doBeat the computer to 7 points, then time-travel to the next world. Move with the mouse, touch or arrow keys, and move as you strike to curve the ball. Three difficulties, and a medal for each one you beat in every world.

How this works: we look up every game on itch.io, Steam and Game Jolt and average the player reviews, weighted by how many each site has. Steam and Game Jolt use thumbs up or down, so we turn their percentage into stars (90% positive = 4.5). "Viber Cove players" is scored by people with a Viber Cove account.

How it was made

Our own game, so here's exactly how we built it: the real prompts, the model and the time it took. No course to buy.

Model
Claude Opus 5.5
Tools
Claude Code, in the Claude desktop app · Claude's built-in browser, to play-test and screenshot its own work
Built with
three.js · Web Audio (every sound is generated in code, no audio files) · One self-contained HTML file
Time
About 1 hour 50 minutes of Claude working, in one evening (27 Sep 2026)
Prompts
3 main prompts for the first full version, then a few rounds of feedback
Cost
No per-game bill (made on a Claude subscription). For scale: Claude wrote about 500,000 tokens of code and reasoning in that session, including getting it onto the site

The prompts, in order

  1. send me a pong single player game - fully works best design and game sounds no cyberpunk i want the best design not made before - give it 3 totally different aestethics you can click through. all must be 3d and highly stylised and impressive and unique . 3 difficulties of ai opponent

The opening prompt, exactly as typed. This gave a working 3D Pong with three looks.

  2. the cartoony one the pitch is flashing green and red, change game to pong in history. i want 6 worlds based on historical places parthenon, macchu picchu, pyramids, IN the colliseum as a gladiator style, victorian london, french aristocracy gladiator one should be first, and change game name to pong through time

The pivot that made it Pong Through Time. Later rounds of feedback took it to the 10 worlds it has now.

  3. amazing, polish the menus up big time

Trimmed: the rest of the message asked to put it on the site. This gave it the time-machine world picker, medals and the pause menu.

How the build went

Claude wrote all of the code from these prompts, with nothing made by hand. After each change it ran the game in a built-in browser, took screenshots, and used a debug switch to fast-forward time and check every world before handing it back. The human side was the ideas and feedback after playing.
